“United4Gaza”: Many arrests at pro-Palestinian demonstration in Berlin

The demonstration, with thousands of participants, initially began peacefully in front of the Reichstag building. However, as the protest against Israel's actions in the Middle East conflict progressed, violence erupted.
According to police, more than 12,000 people participated in a pro-Palestinian demonstration in Berlin . The march moved from the Platz der Republik near the Reichstag building toward Potsdamer Platz, a police spokeswoman said.
The demonstration initially remained peaceful. However, violence and criminal activity later erupted at Potsdamer Platz. According to police, a total of approximately 50 people were arrested for assault, property damage, shouting of banned slogans, and displaying illegal symbols. Five people were injured by police during de-escalation attempts.
The protest march moved through Berlin much more slowly than expected, and significantly more people turned out than anticipated. Only 5,000 participants had registered. The demonstration was dispersed around 9:30 p.m.
Under the title “United4Gaza,” the organizers called, among other things, for a halt to German support for the Israeli government, more humanitarian aid for the people in the Gaza Strip, and “a decriminalization of Palestinian voices, symbols, and protests .”
